Apple Cinnamon Scones With Date Syrup Drizzle

These scones are just as delicious as Honey Cake for Rosh Hashanah or Yom Teruah (The Feast of Trumpets) and require way less time in the kitchen! The Silan (Date Syrup) gives them a powerful punch of flavor without the loaded sugar content.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup of cold butter or margarine
  • 1 cup of shredded apple
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon for sprinkling if desired
  • 1 tablespoon Artza box Silan (Date Syrup) Glaze (See banner on my Homepage to order from Artza)

Pre-heat your oven to 425 degrees.

Combine dry ingredients and mix them together well. Cut in the 1/4 cup butter. Add the shredded apple, then the milk and mix until it forms a soft dough. Add a bit of flour if the dough is too sticky.

Knead a few times, working the flour into the dough until it is barely sticky. Divide into two balls and flatten until they are about 6 inches in diameter. Divide dough into 6 pieces by pressing soft lines into the dough with a butter knife. (You don’t need to fully divide it since it can be done after it bakes)

Place them on a well greased baking sheet or parchment paper and sprinkle them with brown sugar and/or cinnamon. Pop into the oven and bake for 15- 20 minutes until they are golden brown. Remove and cool. When the scones are cooled, glaze with Date Syrup and enjoy while warm. Maya, the Beagle was trying to snag a bite!
